May you have enough, be satisfied, and find contentedness in your architectural practice.
What Does Your Ideal Business Look Like?
It takes some stepping back from the day-to-day running of a firm, to think about how to shape a business around a meaningful set of ideals. Philosophical thinking about why we work, what meaning it holds in our lives, what we’re trying to accomplish by being in business is a very different kind of thinking than the pragmatic skills needed to provide professional services and get paid for them.
But here’s the thing.
If at some point we don’t pause and give ourselves time to think about what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, how it’s impacting others, and whether or not we are feeling fulfilled, practicing architecture can become a grind, a means to a paycheck, or worse, something we go numbly through the day doing because it’s what we’re trained to do.
Whether you are starting a new firm, running an established practice, co-leading a firm, or simply ensconced within a firm, it’s good to take a time out and think about just what’s happening in your business, and whether the state of your business reflects what matters to you. Clarifying what “enough” means to you is the crux of running a satisfying, contented practice.
